Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, scion of New Orleans’ “First Family of Art and Culture,” nephew of Donald Harrison, Jr. and grandson of the legendary Big Chief Donald Harrison Sr. (d. 1998) and New Orleans Legend Award recipient, Herreast J. Harrison. He is the identical twin brother of lauded writer/director Kiel Adrian Scott, a Spike Lee protégé. The progenitor of “Stretch Music” and the courageous designer of innovative new brass instruments, Christian is also leading the technological advance with the first interactive Stretch Music app offering for this generation of young improvisers.

Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, via his Stretch Music label, joins the Ropeadope family of artists as a leader, a man who represents the spirit of music as a social force for change and discourse as well as an innovator of a new compositional/improvisational style and technique. His credits speak of a man who, musically, belongs to all tribes and no tribe at the same time. Christian embodies the spirit of Sankofa, which references the past while moving forward. His Ropeadope debut, Stretch Music, introduces twenty year-old phenom flautist, Elena Pinderhughes. Christian along with Elena and a cast of stellar musicians, represents that Sankofa spirit and challenges the world to join in - to stretch.

“It’s about expanding oneself to see all as valid. You have to be able to stretch yourself to Stretch Music. It’s the sound of the complete reevaluation of the way we communicate and relate.”
Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah

Born in 1983 in New Orleans, Christian began his musical tutelage with his uncle, legendary sax man and jazz innovator Donald Harrison Jr. A graduate of the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), Christian received a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music and earned a degree within 30 months. He has released seven critically acclaimed studio recordings and two live albums. Christian is known for developing the harmonic convention known as the forecasting cell and for his use of an unvoiced tone in his playing that emphasizes breath over vibration at the mouthpiece. This technique is widely referred to as the “whisper technique.” Christian is also recognized as one of the progenitors of “Stretch Music,” a genre blind musical form that stretches the rhythmic, melodic and harmonic conventions to encompass as many musical forms, languages, and cultures as possible.

Stretch Music features a cast of this generations most daring conceptualists. The group was formed to eradicate all arguments that inhibit creative and progressive expression: to musically show that all forms belong together, as all people do. The recording features four new instruments designed exclusively for the group. They include three horns designed by Christian and Adams Instruments (The Siren, Sirenette and Reverse Flugel Horn) and the Pan African Drum Kit, created by Christian and drummer, Joe Dyson. These are joined by traditional and electronic instrumentation. Together, they create a sinuous sonic scape that actualizes the vision Stretch Music.

Brian Ray is best known for being the long time first guitarist of Paul McCartney. He also played 14 years and released several albums with Etta James. So he got soul. Soon Gibson will release a Brian Ray signature SG guitar.

Oliver Leiber is a songwriter / producer and has been on the radio for almost 30 years. He has been writing for Rod Stewart and many others. He is the son of Jerry Leiber of Leiber and Stoller, who wrote the songbook of Rock & Roll with songs including “Hound Dog”, “Jailhouse Rock”, “Poison Ivy” or “Stand by Me”.

Also involved have been Scott Shriner (Weezer), Davey Faragher (Elvis Costello), Adam MacDougall (Black Crowes), Larry Taylor (Tom Waits) and Steven Tyler (Aerosmith).

The first single released, “Sucker for Love”, caught the attention of musician and actor Little Steven Van Zandt (Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, “The Sopranos”, “Lillyhammer”), who featured it as the “Coolest Song in the World” on his popular SiriusXM radio show, “Underground Garage”. Little Steven would ultimately name three of The Bayonets’ first five singles his “Coolest Song In The World” - an honor enjoyed by only one other band. “The song “Crash Boom Bang” became 4th coolest song of 2014 behind Bruce Springsteen on No. 1.
